v. SMALL BOY DROWNED.
SAILING BOAT IN CREEK. HAT FLOATING ON SURFACE. i (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star." WARKWORTH, this day. Left by himself for a few minutes, Leslie Ward, aged six years, the adopted son 'of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Ward, of Matakana, was drowned in a creek on Friday afternoon. Tho boy had been playing with his foster-brothers, aged 13 and 15, sailing boats in the creek. In the afternoon the older boys went away to play cricket, and Leslie went down to the creek to sail his boat. He was missed by Mrs. Ward, and a few minutes liter his hat was seen floating in the water. His body was found in four feet of water. Dr. F. C. Shaw, and Constable Robertson, of Warkworth, were called. Artificial respiration measures were unavailing. An inquest was held on Saturday before Mr. A. J. S. Warin, when a verdicr of accidental drowning was returned.
