CLEVER LANDING.
S SMITHY FORCED DOWN. SYDNEY, January 31. Air-Commodore Kingsford Smith was flying the Southern Cross over Maitland, 120 miles north of Sydney, with 14 passengers when one of "the longerons snapped. The pilot assured the passengers that all would be well if they trusted him. He made a spiral descent, making a pancake landing in the centre of the racecourse with a bump, but safely.
