BILLIARDS BREAK. Lindrum Touches 4000 Mark In Davis Match. OPPONENT REPLIES WITH 1000. (United P.A—Electric Telegraph—Copyright' (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 20. A world record for a billiards break was created by Walter Lindrum, in his match with Joe Davis, when the 4000 mark was touched. Lindrum approached the 5000 break which he has promised to make during the present season. He began the evening session of his match with Joe Davis with a break of 701 unfinished. Chiefly by open play, and then by sequences of 58 to 94 nursery cannons, he reached the thousand. His only difficulty was at 1189, a loser leaving the red in a bad position. His next stroke sent the white into ballc whence he recovered by i most accurate cannon, enabling an easy white Icuser to regain position. Thereafter he played nursery cannons, including runs of 135, 132, SB, 101 and 97. Thus faille had played for 2} hours, hia nurserycannons aggregating 907, with a previous break of 808. The score in the match is:—Lindrum, Gl7O, Davis (receives 7000), 5644. At the next session Lindrum carried the break to 391i7 unfinished, a world's rccord. Davis describes Limlrum's feat as truly astounding. It is a performance of dual control—of brain and balls. Lindrum said: "I felt juet a little uncomfortable for the first 10 minutes on resuming from overnight. I was. not too good, but when I got warmed up I felt quite confident, and when I reached 4000 I felt I could go on indefinitely. It was just a little kick of my ball which brought the position that crashed me." The end came with one of the object balls carrying just half an inch too far. This meant all but a cover cannon. Lindrum took a short rest and tried the cannon by playing first on the top cushion with running side, but failed by a hair's breadth. Davis immediately went to the table and scored 1000. This is the first time that opponents have made consccutive breaks of four figures.
