THEFT OF BENZINE.
Charged with stealing a case of benzine, valued at £1 1/, Victor Richard Wickenden appeared on summons at the Police Court yesterday. Detective Sergeant Kelly said accused ran out of benzine while passing through Mangatou recently in a truck, and took one of three cases of benzine. He was a respectable man, and at present in poor circumstances. He was moving his furniture at the time of the offence. In convicting and ordering accused to come up for sentence when called upon, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, told- him that if he wanted petrol and had no money to buy it, the least he could have done was to leave a note stating that he had taken it. "I'm giving you a chancc, but be honest in the future," Mr. Hunt told him.
