PLUNKET SHIELD GAME.
OTAGO TEAM ANNOUNCED.
McHAFFIE REPLACES PRIEST,
Keen to meet Auckland in their second Plunket Shield fixture of the season, the Otago representative cricket team arrived from the south by the daylight Limited express last night. The side practised at Eden Park this morning, and to-night they will attend the Civic Theatre.
The team to meet Auckland in the match, which commences at Eden Park to-morrow, is as follows:—
J. A. Dunning (Captain) R. C. Blunt. F. T. Badcock. A. R. Knight. R. Cherry. D. A. R. Moloney. C. J. Elmes. H. D. Smith. W. Hawksworth. R. Coupland. J. McHaffie.
W. A. Priest (twelfth man)
The team is the same as put up such a gallant fight with Canterbury at at Christchurch earlier in the week, with the exception that J. McHaffie replaces W. A. Priest, who had a "bad game" at Christchurch. McHaffie is a young player who had a particularly good season in Dunedin last year. Captain of the Palmereton North High School team in 1928, he is a capable all-rounder—a 6ure held, a medium pace bowler, and a forcing bat.
J. A. Dunning, the captain of the team, is well known in Auckland, having played here with the University Club and also in the representative team. Aucklenders will be anxious to see R. C. Blunt, whose magnificent triple century at Christchurch was a record for Plunket Shield games. F. T. Badcock, the English professional coach is another member of the team well known in Auckland. All things considered it is likely that more than ordinary interest will be taken in the match, especially as it appears that the weather will be "real cricket weather."
