Several Traffic and Drowning Tragedies. FIERCE BUSH TIRES. (Eeeeived 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. Christmas holiday tragedies numbered nine in New South Wales, where five people were drowned and fonr killed in motor car smashes. There were three drowning fatalities at Brie bane. The week-end was extremely hot. Fires at South Wagga swept a large area of wheat and grass laTwi? over a front of several miles. Fighters were nnable to stem the Sames. In. South Australia fires on scrub lands near BrMgewater threatened a number of picnic campers, who had an anxiotsctime getting to safety, which they did by the combined efforts of men, women and children. Their merry-making was turned to a grim fight to save lives and property.
