TRANSPORT CHANGES.

The impressions received on his tour of Britain, Canada and the United States by the general manager of the Christchurch Tramways Board should be noted by our own Transport Board and by the public. Mr. Thompson has found tramway organisations everywhere in financial difficulties, and he is very favourably disposed towards tho trolley bus—that is, the bus that is run by electricity, but does not use rails. He considers that his own Board has done wisely in introducing trolley buses/ and that this form of vehicle will solve many of our transport problems. It may bo pointed out that the British lioyal Commission on Transport, set up in 1928, regards tramways as obsolescent if not obsolete, and recommends'that no more be laid down. In Auckland tramways are still being built, and though it is reasonably certain that tho Avondale extension will be the last, one cannot help feeling apprehensive about the financial result of this and recent works. Mi*. Thompson's full report to his Board should bo of equal importance to Auckland.
