WORK AT ELLERSLIE.

SOME FAST SPRINTS-

LADY PAM ARRIVES FROM SOUTH,

The weather was fine though diull for training work at Ellerslie this morning. The No. 1 grass track was open, and was in excellent order, but there was not a great deal of fast work, though several smart sprints were recorded.

Golden Wedding and Sir Mond went off slowly from the seven-furlong post, and finished up in 1.34 2-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.21. Speedfast sprinted half a mile in 51 l-ss, hitting out very freely. Taurua completed a similar task in 50 l-ss. This horse is looking in first rate order, and will contest the Plunket Handicap tomorrow, in which he will be ridden by H. Gray. Pennyplain did strong w»ork, running his last six furlongs in 1.20 4-5. Leitrim dashed over half a mile in 48s. He looks in great order. Kawainga -was sent over a round with Glenhaupo to 'bring him home over the last five furlongs l , running the full distance in 1.56 1-5. She will contest the Ponsonby Hurdle Race to-morrow. Chromadyne was sent five furlongs, running the distance in 1.2 4-5. Tlvis gelding ran a good race in the Railway Handicap, and should show up in his remaining engagements at the meeting. Fw>m the old mile post Chief Cook was tini'pd to traverse a mile in 1.47 1-5, the last half taking 52 l-ss. Valmaire was going comfortably alongside Aga Khan at the end of live furlongs which took 1.4 3-5. Paganelli, after commencing slowly, ran three furlongs in 40s, but did not have much pace on until he turned into the straight. Cruachan (Carmont) negotiated a couple of hurdles safely. He is engaged in hurdle events at the meeting, and should run well. Lady Pam, who arrived from the South yesterday in charge' of her .trainer, G. Jones, was out doing steady flacework. The Taranaki two-year-old Arouse Ticked himself while contesting the Great Northern Foal Stakes, and is not likely to race again for some time. This juvenile displayed a lot of promise, and. it is unfortunate for his connections to; lose his services at this period of the season.
