HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS.

MAN UNDER TRACTOR.

PINNED FOR AN HOUR.

CARRIED A MILE BY MATE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Reginald McSweeney, aged 24, working on a contract job at Poroti, was caught underneath a tractor, where he remained in pain for an hour until his companion, Mr. H. C. Reed, jacked the heavy weight off. The accident occurrcd just on knock-ing-off time at 7 o'clock, and Mr. Reed carried his semi-conscious mate in the dark for a mile over the broken, rough country. Mr. McSwccney was brought to hospital by the ambulance, arriving at 11 o'clock. His injuries did not prove as serious as might be expected, and he has been discharged. CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE. A fracture of the right leg and lacerations were suffered by a married man, Mr. A. F. Beetson, aged 25, of. v 9, Ward Street, Ellerslie, when a motor cycle, on the pillion of which he was riding, collided with a taxi at Mount Albert yesterday afternoon. The rider of the motor cycle escaped serious injury. Mr. Beetson was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and his condition is regarded as satisfactory. TAXI-DRIVER INJURED. A taxi-driver, Mr. George Russell, of 230, Hobson Street, City, had hia head injured when the vehicle he was driving collided with a telegraph pole in Carlton Gore Road, Grafton, on Saturday afternoon. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and his condition is stated to be satisfactory. CHILD'S LEG GASHED. A deep gash on the right leg was received by a child of eight years, Edward Webb, of 23, Beresford Street, City, when he fell from a swing at his home on Sunday afternoon. The child was admitted to hospital, where stitches were inserted. HORSE SHIES AT CAR. A motor car driven by Mr. Norman L. Davenhurst, of Birkenhead, was damaged when a pony ridden by Miss Trist, of Birkenhead, became frightened and shied in front of it. The driver of the car was forccd to swerve suddenly to avoid the animal, and, in doing so, ran into a stono wall. He himself was slightly cut by broken glass. The accident took place in Queen Street, Northcote, late on Saturday afternoon. PEDESTRIAN STRUCK. COLLISION NEAR FOOTPATH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. A collision between a motor cycle and a taxi to-day caused Mrs. Kearney, of 110, Carlyle Street, Sydenham, who was standing on the footpath, to be knocked over. She received a compound fracture of the left leg, as well as scalp wounds. Neither the cyclist nor the driver of the car received more than minor injuries. When the taxi struck his machine, the motor cyclist, who was travelling close to the kerb, was thrown against Mrs. Kearney, who was kriocked violently to the ground. THROUGH WINDSCREEN. YOUNG WOMAN INJURED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OTOROHANGA, this day. In a motor accident on the main road to the south, late on Christmas Eve, between cars driven by Miss P. Langkilde, of Otorolianga, and Mr. Russell, of Hamilton, Miss Vera Langkilde received severe head injuries, necessitating medical attention, through beiug thrown through the windscreen of her. sister's car. Both cars; were badly damaged. TWO CARS COLLIDE. OCCUPANTS IN HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Saturday. Two cars collided between Waipawa and Waipukurau to-day, one going over a bank and being damaged extensively. The two occupants, Mrs. Want and her daughter Valerie, aged six, were admitted to the Waijrakurau Hospital, the former with lacerations to her legs and the latter with body bruises. Mr. H. Stear, the driver of the other car, was also admitted to the hospital with the tendons of his left hand cut. CRIPPLE INJURED. CAR CAUSES ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Saturday. Lewis Evans, a cripple,-of Napier, was knocked from a motor-driven invalid chair by an overtaking car on the Awatoto Road on Christmas Day, and sustained a fracture of the base of the skull. His condition is satisfactory. GIRL FALLS FROM LORRY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Saturday. Riding on a motor lorry with her father on Christmas Day near Otane, Barbara Pederson, aged nine, fell to the ground in endeavouring to recover one of a load of horse collars which was slipping. She sustained a compound fracture of the leg. MAN STRUCK ON HEAD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A young man, Wilfred Sands, who was struck on the head by an iron pulley while engaged in boring for w r ater at Maungakaramea on Saturday afternoon, received severe scalp wounds. He was taken to the Whangarei District Hospital, and is reported to be in a satisfactory condition. . ,
