VERTIGERN AT RANDWICK. HOSTILE RECEPTION AFTER WIN. SYDNEY, December 27. The second day of the Australian Jockey Club's summer meeting was held at Randwick yesterday. The weather was brilliantly fine and hot and the course was in excellent order. The Summer Cup was won by the New Zealand trainer W. D. Moloney's Vertigern, which had a hostile reception on returning to weigh in. The New Zealand jockey T. Webster won the December Stakes on N.E.F. and High Disdain annexed the Chisliolm Handicap. Birthday Present was the winner of the Christmas Trial, while the A..J.C. Handicap (last race) resulted in a deadheat between Abbot's Lace and King's Arms, with Cathmar third. Munro 3 TwelVe started, including Geniliglit. From a good start Chase March led the Hold to the mile post from Saekhut and Talkie. Then the rest closed up and Talkie showed the way into the straight with Sackbut in attendance, but Inducement and Vertigorn came through in great style. A good finish saw Vertigern the victor by a length. Spearmail was a length and a half away third. Salvador was fourth. Time, 2.45:1.

VICEROY'S CUP.

WON BY NIGHTJAR. CALCUTTA, December 26. The Viceroy's Cup, one mile and threequarters, resulted: — Nightjar, 9.3 (Edwards). 1; Shipshape, 9.3 (Carslake), 2; Pendennis. 9.3 (Dobie), 3. Eleven started. Won by a neck. Time, 3.3. The first prize is a cup valued at £100 and 50,000 rupees.
