TRAIN HITS CAR.

WOMAN MOTORIST INJURED.

CROSSING SMASH AT NEW LYNN. VEHICLE BADLY DAMAGED. Fortunate not to have met death when the car in which she was driving across the Totara Avenue level crossing, New Lynn, yesterday afternoon, was struck by a train, Miss Lena Eoote, aged 42, sustained severe head injuries which necessitated her removal to the Auckland Hospital. Her conditions is serious. The car, which was directly across the line when it was struck, was not overturned, winch circumstance saved Miss Eoote from being flung out and run over by the tram. She was the only occupant of the car, which was carried across the cattlestop and for a short distance beyond. The train was slowing up preparatory to stopping at the New Lynn station.

The car was badly battered on the off-side, and the portion of the body that had taken the impact was damaged beyond recognition. The off rear wheel was smashed, the running board badly splintered, both mudguards broken, the rear tyre on the near side torn, and the back of the body split. The glass was not broken.
