The S.Q.S. raffle, run by tlie Canterbury Rowing Club, Christcliurch, was drawn on Saturday night, and the first two prizes went to Christchurch residents L. I. Reyburn, of St. George's Bay Road, Parnell, drew the third prize, and G. Mason, 24, Fourth Avenue, Ivingsland, drew the fifth, the only Aucklanders to get into the money. The origin of the word "gooseberry" is said to be because the berry was at one time used to make a saucc to serve with young geese.' In the opinion of some people it rivals apple sauce, especially Avhen a lump of butter is added.
