New Zealand horse Gold Day was distressed upon' returning to the stalls_ after running an indifferent race in the Moorefield Flying Handicap. He showed unmistakable signs of having been doped, but later his condition responded to treatment. There ie a suggestion that a dope gang is operating on Sydney courses. The trainer is at a loss to fathom th'e whole occurrence., .'..'. ' ~

The "Sydney Morning Herald" ,says: "The Victoria Derby was responsible for one of the greatest setbacks in the history of the classic. Ammon Ra, who was thought to have a mortgage on the race, . failed to gain a place, while Johnnie Jason, who was not a match for the New Zealander at Rand wick in the A.J.C. Derby, revealed improved stamina and determination.
"There was considerable interference in the straight, Ammon Ra and Chatham being the- chief sufferers, though McCarten admitted Ammon Ra was beaten at the time. At the finish, he seemed a very tired horse." •
