GATHERING AT DOMAIR.
KEEN ATHLETIC RIVALRY.
POPULAR DANCING EVENTS.
Although the light showers and overcast sky of the morning kept many-picnic parties away from the Domain, where the Labour Day celebrations were held to-day, there was a large attendance during the afternoon. The attractive sports, .programme arranged by the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, by permission of the Auckland Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A., attracted splendid entries and some interesting contests were witnessed both" in the running and cycling events.
A feature of.the day's attractions was the dancing section, conducted under the auspices of the Highland and National Dancing Society. The events commenced early in the day and there was ;keen rivalry throughout,, the entries being numerous. The skirl of the bagpipes and the enthusiasm with which the girls threw themselves- • into -the • contests ; invested the.scene .with a touch of gaiety, and attracted large audiences around the; dancing platform. y The following officials had charge of the sports programme:—Judges, Messrs.
