OFFICIAL OPENINGS
RAWHITI CLUB,
The official opening of the Rawhiti Lawn Tennis Club was held on Saturday afternoon, 'but the weather conditions did 'not permit of play on the grass courts. The president, Mr. J. Kalman, extended a welcome to the players and guests, and wished 'the club a- successful season. " A presentation was made to Mr. R. H. Barker, in recognition of Ins many years of service as club secretary. Members and friends were then the guests of the president at afternoon tea.
PAEROA CLUB. The Paeroa La»n Tenuis Club held the official opening of the season on Saturday afternoon. Mr. A. P. Grant, the president, welcomed the visitors, and Mr. W. Marshall, Mayor of Paeroa, and patron of the club, officially opened* the courts for play. There was a large attendance of members and visitors, but rain spoilt the afternoon. WHANGAREI CLUB. The official opening of the Whangarei Lawn .Tennis Club .was held on- Saturday afternoon, -in showery weather. There was a large number of visitors. The president, Mr. F. Higginson, in declaring the courts open, said he was sure the club would have a most successful season, and -already 40 new members had been enrolled, the 14 courts heing ample for many years to come. A progressive was commenced, hut had to be abandoned owing to rain. * -' < OPOTIKI.CLUB. ' s The Opotiiki Lawn Tennis. Club formally opened its season ion Saturday. The president, Mr. IR. H. Semple, welcomed those present-and predicted a successful season, with more outside matches. Friendly games were played during the afternoon. - * AVONDALE CLUB.
The Avondale Tennis Club's opening was postponed until next week.
