AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. MANY ELIMINATING BOUTS. FINALS THIS EVENING. Elimination bouts in connection with the Auckland Wrestling Association's annual amateur championship tournament were decided before a fair-sized crowd in Scots Hall last evening. The first bout was staged at seven o'clock, but it was midj night before the - programme was comipleted. The semi-finals and finals will take | place'this evening.

Although there were some bright bouts the general standard was • hardly as high as anticipated. The fact that a number of popular holds which are permitted in amateur preliminaries at the Town Hall were not allowed under the championship rules, had the effect of putting a few of the competitors out of their stride, and the floor of the ring had an awkward fall towards the body of the.hall. The officials were:—Referees; Messrs. C. Pollard, L. Wilson, C. B. McCarthy; judges, Messrs. J. L. Kinnear, W. E. Grant, D. Simpson, D. H. Connelly, E. Robinson, A. Carr; announcer, Mr. J. M. F. Results:— Bantam-weights. Limit, 8.2. . A. Hassan (7.9) beat W. Jackson (7.13) on points. There was little between the jboys, and neither could score a fall. [ Kishai Bana (7.2) beat J. Kissin (7.13) on points. _ Kissin put up a creditable showing against his more experienced opponent. Feather-weights. Under 9.0. R. Williams (8.6) beat T. Blackledge (8.5). The loser was heavily dumped at the end of the.first round, and was unable to continue. B. Keesing (5.12) beat W. McLeod (8.8). A cradle in the first round and a press in the third gave Keesing a clear-cut win. K. Brewer (9.0) beat C. Anderson (8.12) after a close bout. Neither registered a fall, Brewer taking the decision on points. Lightweights. Limit, 10.0. T. Robinson (9.2) beat-H. Heaps (9.6). Robinson scored a fall with a body press in the second round, and another with a figure four body scissors in the third. L. Copestack (9.6) beat F. Adams (9.2). Body presses gave Copestack falls in the second and third rounds. B. Tupp*(lo.o) beat G. Morrison (9.6) on points. Each had secured a fall with a body press, Tupp in the second round and Morrison in the third. W. Jackson (10.0) beat R. Hobbs (9,5). This bout was fairly lively, Jackson winning two falls with presses. C. Kelly (9.11) beat J. Whittaker (9.6) by one fall gained with a body press in the second round.

.. W. Paget (9.5) beat J. Boyle (9.10). The only fall of the bout was a penalty one awarded to Paget in the second round, when Boyle used a strangle hold. D. Skelton (9.10) beat W. Abraham (9.11). Skelton made use of a body press to take falls in the first and second round. D. Smith (9.10) beat W. Williamson (8.11) on points. Neither scored a fall, but Smith was the more aggressive throughout. G. Morgan (9.10) beat B. Tupp (10.0) by two falls. The winner scored first with a cradle and then with a body press. Welter-weights. Under 10.7. A. J. Newton (10.1) 'beat M. E. McDonald (10.3). Presses gave Newton the win in straight falls. J. Kazanich (10.6) beat O. Bracegirdle (10.1) on points. In a strenuous 'bout neither could score a fall. J. W. Murphv (10.2) beat G. M. Brown (10.3) in straight falls. Murphy pinned his man with a head-scissors in the second round and with a body press in the third. F. Munce (10.5) beat F. E. Baker (10.2) by one fall.. In the third round Mu'ncc scored with a body press. A. J. Newton (10.1) beat J. Holeliouse (10.4) in straight falls. v ' First a .press and then a headlock gave Newton the win. Middle-weights. Limit 11.4. H. Johnson (11.3) beat K. Kenneth (10.11) by one fall. Johnson scored with a single arm scissors and press in the first round. t H. Way (11.0) beat S. Lipscombe (11.1) on points after an even and well-con-tested bout. Neither could score a fall. J. Beaslev (10.9) beat Mantonovitch (11.4) on points. Although lie failed to register a fall Beasley almost 6cored 011 two occasions. J. G. Boyle (11.0) beat W. Speakman (11.4) by a single fall gained in the third round with a body press. Light Heavy-weights. Limit 12.7. T. Shanahan • (12.1.) beat D. McKenzie (12.5) by one fall. Shanahan scored with an arm scissors and further nelson in the third round. A. Jones (11.1) 'beat L. Burton (11./) by one fall gained in the third round. J. Wilson (12.1) beat C. Nola (11.9) by one fall. A single arm scissors and press "ave Wilson a fall in the second round. B A.
