CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. SATURDAY'S BIG FIXTURE. The Auckland Rugby League met last evening, Mr. George Rhodes presiding. The champion of champions match, Marists r. Devonport, on Saturday, was considered, and it was decided to atart play at the usual tinje. It wag decided to offer the N«w Zealand Council the hire of Carlaw Park on a flat percentage basis for Eastern Suburbs matches next month. The Ponsonby Club reported that its senior team, with Delgrosso as captain, would play at Hamilton on Saturday. At the meeting of the Primary Schools' management last evening, it was decided to play teams of schoolboys representing the city and suburbs an one of the early curtain-raisers on October 10. Thompson. WEDNESDAY CHAMPIONS. WATERSIDERS WIN HONOURS. There was a fair attendance to sde the two matches on No. 2 ground at Carlaw Park yesterday, when, owing to Stones and Stormont's being unable to field their official team, the Waterwders won the match and championship. However, a good game was staged, and held the attention of the crowd. In the first half, which ended 5 all, the play was not of high standard. For twenty minutes afterwards the Watersiders were strongly pressed, but suddenly the backs opened up, and a brillian move by Peckham, with R. Purdy, ended in the former player scoring after, the ball had been handled by seven' others. Three similar passing bouts brought tries to Joy and J. Purdy (2), and, after a forward try to S ton ex, the score*, with goals, showed a tally of 18— 10.
