At the wool sales 11,053 bales were offered, including 2136 New Zealand. About 9558 were sold. There was active Home and Continental competition, with prices in sellers' favour. New Zealand greasy crossbred, Makarewa, top price Bd, a\ eras: 2 7 Msd. , Bradford is firmer all round, with more business in tops and yarns at liiglici prices.

ADVANCE IN TRICES

At the wool sales to-day 10,801 bales were offered and 9970 were sold. In addition 3078 bales were disposed of privately. There was strong general competition,' a feature being the increased Yorkshire demand. Prices showed a further advance of 10 per cent for best desciiptions and 5 per cent for all other soits, excepting very inferior lines. Greasy Merino made up to 15d, the top price foi the season. , ~ . , The average price of the wool sold a* Sydney last week was £4 4/4 per bale, equal to 6.SBd per lb.

TALLOW AND HEMP

The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram,_ dated 26th instant, from the High Commissioner tor New Zealand, Londo i: ■ Tallow.—During the week parts of last week's catalogue have been cleared at slightly lower prices. Hemp.—Manila market firm. K grade for September/November shipment sold on Thursday at £15 15/. and yesterday (September 25) at £18. Nominal closing value for November/January shipment, £ slsa l l°has advanced in sympathy. Good business has been done in j\o. 1 fan average quality for shipment, which sold up to £15 10/. Nominal closing value, £16 10/, and No. 2 £15 15/. 'New Zealand.—No business reported and it is therefore difficult to estimate values September/November shipment nominally on the basis of fair grade, £18.

WHEAT CARGOES, ETC
