Rubber tyres were used 5000 years ago. The Egyptians' chariots were equipped with 2in solid tyres. Some have been excavated which still are in a fair state of preservation. The formula for treating the rubber is not known.
Reginald D. Freeman, of Racine, Wisconsin, is making* a tour of the United States in a car which he assembled from the parts of one hundred other cars of twenty different makes. It can go 72 miles an hour.'
In these days of record-breaking, the distinction of having the longest initials of any automobile club goes • to "the lloyal East African Automobile and Aeronautic Association, whose members are privileged to display the abbreviation of "JR.E.A.A.A.A."
