The Light Brigade, which made the famous charges in the battle of Balaclava, was a body of cavalry composed of the 13th Light Dragoons, 17th Lancers, 11th Hussars, Sth Hussars, and 4th Light Dragoons. The Thin Red Line was the 93rd Highlanders, so described by Dr. W- HBussell, j^e_wax ; correspondent, because they did not trouble to form into square.
