Marechal's Maiden in Field

of Twenty-three.

I scratching pen accounted for thir- . teen acceptors in the Maiden Plate, leaving a field of 23 to.line up in an undivided field. Heremia, with £134, was installed ; faVourite from Great Emblem ( £114) and the Excella Tea-Lady Musk bracket (£99). The investments on Marechal totalled £74. When they settled down the order was Great Emblem, United 3 Marechal, Kingsway, Whakapara and Act aeon. Going along the top United was in front, and then came Marechal, Great Emblem, Whakapara,' Kingsway, Loterie, Heremia, and Actaeon. At the straight entrance. Marechal ranged alongside and-they were followed by Great Emblem, Loterie, Actaeon, Lady Musk, Heremia, Kingsway and Tarporley. In the run to the judge Marechal came on nicely, to win by two lengths from Heremia, which beat Great Emblem x by half a length. Tarporley was fourth, and then came United, Granado, Don't Lap, Kingsway, Lady Musk and Loterie. Three Come Down. Going along the back Whakama was still pilot, being attended by Russet Moor, Unoco, and Neil, with a break to I Slump, Cargen and 1 Monetize. Across the top Whakama headed Russet Moor, who was well clear of Unoco, and then there was a good gap to Neil, Monetize, Cargen ; ( and Patutahi. Whakama hit the straight first from Russet Moor, Unoco, Neil, Cargen and Monetize. The leader had no trouble in securing the thick end of • the purse by five lengths from Monetize. Neil was a length and a half further away. At the second fence from home Russet Moor, Unoco and Patutahi came down. Nassoek was fourth, followed by Cargen, St. Ames and Slump. A Brilliant Run. Tliere were' two defections for the Champion Hack Plate —Beverage -and KarangapaL When the machine closed Biddy's Boy was made a very hot order, with £973, from Catoma (£333) and Gay Lap (£303), while on Curie's chance £150 was invested. Biddy's Boy hopped out smartly and led from Valueless, Gay Lap,' Aspian, Catoma, Jalldy Karo and Full Measure. As they crossed the top Gay Lap joined issue with Biddy's Boy, and ithey held sway from Aspian, Catoma, Valueless, Bronze Tray. Jalldy Karo, Gibraltar, Curie and Speedmint. At the straight entrance the favourite had a slight call over Gay Lap, and then cams' Aspian, Catoma, Full Measure, Valueless, Speedmint, Gibraltar and Curie. Fairly down to business, Voitre got to work on Curie, who put in a phenomenal run to get second halfway down the running. The Arausio gelding caught the favourite and passed him 50 yards from the post, and went on to win by half a length. Gibraltar also finished well get third berth, two lengths behind Biddy's Boy. Speedmint was fourtf, followed by Catoma, Gay Lap, Jalldj Karo, Valueless, Full, Measure, Aspjaij and Bronze Tray.

A Great Dividend. Sixteen runners contested the Avonda.le Cup, Lady Pam being the only acceptor not saddled up. Taneriri, with Gray in the saddle, was sorted out as having the best chance, and he carried £700. The next best backed were Historic (£466) and Malahat ( 'Little Doubt was entrusted with £47 and Maori Boy £138. Going out of the straight Standfast showed the way to Spear Lad, Little Doubt, Historic, Maori Boy, Flying Prince, and Autumn Sun. Racing along the back Standfast was in the lead from Maori Boy, Spear Lad, Little Doubt, Autumn Sun, Flying Prince, Malahat, Te Hoia, Historic, Cessation, Air Laddie, Valroe. True Blood, Taneriri; Gay Cockade, and Hotere. Across the top stretch the order was Standfast, Maori Boy, Te Hoia, Autumn Sun, Spear Lad, Litth Doubt, Flying Prince, and Malahat. A: they turned into the straight Maori Bo; had charge from Te Hoia, Autumn Sun Standfast, Air Laddie, Little Doubt '-pear Lad, and Cessation. An interest " ] g race ensued to the deciding line Maori Boy, Little Doubt, Valroe, aw Malahat having a rare tussle, whicl ended in Little • Doubt getting the ver diet by a head from Maori Boy, Vhbeat Valroe by a neck. Malahat wa fourth, and he was followed by Ga tockade, Taneriri, Te Hoia, Air Laddii irue Blood, Standfast, and Autunii *>un. The winner paid over two score. |
