FOX SHIELD.
LEAGUE ■ FOOTBALL TROPHY. PRIZE FOR CLUB CHAMPIONS. One., of the mos.t beautiful sports trophies of/its kind produced in New Zealand is the Pox Memorial Shield, the new championship trophy which is to be formally handed oyer to the Auckland Rugby League *his week. Measuring 27 inches across by 22 inches deep, the base is a handsome sample of polished rimuy with overlay of contrasting pu'riri, on which is an ornate centrepiece in oxidised silver depicting an incident of-play in the New Zealand-Australian match of 1926. The picture with players in a back movement brought out in bold relief, was sent to England to have this feature effectively reproduced. There is: a surround of : raised silver fern leaves, and below, in a gold laurel wreatlra photograph of the late Mr. E. V. ("Cliute") Fox, the popular Nortlv Shore player and omeal, whom the shield' commemorates. A presentation plate, indicating that' the trophy was presented by his admirers, is in the lower middle centre, and the shield is bordered; by seventeen small inscription shields, with the name of Marist Old Boys on the first at the top left eorner, as the club to have the honour of initial possession of the trophy for 1931. A silver scroll, with the full title of. the shield set out in gold lettering, adds to the general artistic scheme in which this massive shield has been carried out.by craftsmen.
