MUSEUM LECTURES.
ON POPULAR SUBJECTS
.So much interest was shown by the public in the first series of Sunday afternoon lectures at , the War Memorial Museum that a second sei-ies has been arranged. The first lecture is announced for next Sunday afternoon, when Mr. A: T. Pycroft will speak on "Maori Fowling." Many people have often wondered how the Maori managed to keep the pot full before the advent of the pakeha with his death-' dealing double-barrelled gun. The sporting instinct is very near the surface in most men and so there is "sure to be a large attendance to hear Mr. Pycroft. The lecture will be illustrated by a fine series of coloured slides of native birds, snares, spears, and the other methods by which the clever Maori secured his bag. Other lectures of the series are: September 13, "Kew Gardens," by Mr. T. L. Lancaster; September 20, "The Great Wall of China," by the Rev. Angus MacDonald; September 27, "Pewter "by Mr. W. J. P. Hodgkins; October 4, "Snails," by Mr. A. W. B. Powell. All the lectures will be illustrated either by lantern slides or specimens from museum reserve collections. ,
