REMARKABLE ESCAPE.
MOTOR VAN STRUCK BY ENGINE. DRIVER ONLY SLIGHTLY HURT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A collision between a railway engine and a motor van driven by Mr. William Green, of Johnsonville, occurred this afternoon at a crossing to the north of the Khandallah station. Mr. Green -had a remarkable escape, suffering nothing more serious than cuts about tho face. The van was considerably damaged, a portion of it being thrown on to the station platform. The vehicle, owned by Mr. S. P. Beaumont, baker, of Johnsonville, had reached the crossing and was on the rails when its' engine stalled. A train which had left Johnsonville for Wellington at 4.4!) p.m. and was nearing Khandallah station crashed into the van, pushing it forward about 30 yards. The. front wheels of the van became separated from the body and were tossed on to tho station platform, damaging a seat there. Mr. Green, after receiving medical attention, was taken to his home.
