MINISTER CALLED.
ST." DAVID'S PRESBYTERIAN
CHURCH,
At a largely attended meeting of the congregation of the St. David's Presbyterian Church 'last evening it -was decided to extend a call to the Rev. W. Bowtr Black, of St. Paul's Church, Christchurch. The pastorate of St. David's has been vacant since the departure of the Rev. D. C. Herron in June last year to take charge of the Knox Church, Dunedin. The Re?. D. D. Scott presided at the meeting laet evening, and after the call has been signed by members and adherents it will be submitted to the. Auckland Presbytery for transmission to Christchurch.
Mr. Black is a son of Mr. Hugh Black, of Dominion Road. He was horn in Wanganui.in 1888, and came to Auckland with his parents two years later. After three years at the Auckland Grammar School he matriculated and entered the office of the late Mr. Malcolm McGregor, barrister and solicitor. He attended the law classes at the University, and in 1912 gained his LL.B. degree. He had a desire to go to the foreign mission field, font this was forbidden by medical advice, so he took a three years' course at the Presbyterian Theological Hall, Dunedin. He failed to pass for-active service during the Great War, and in 1917 was called to the Dargaville charge. Three years later he was called to Carterton, and in November, 1924, entered .on. the pastorate of iSt. Paul's, Christchurch. Mr. Black has been president of the Bible Class Union and has compiled several text books, and also devotional booklets.
