MUST LEAVE CITY.

CHARGE OF CONSORTING. ". "NOT TE KUITI'S GAIN." , Dissatisfied with his associates in Auckland, the police yesterday arrested Alexander Wallace Copley (30), a labourer, on a charge deeming :hitn to be a rogue and vagabond, who habitually consorted, with reputed thieves.

Copley denied the charge when he came before the Police Court this morn-

Evidence was given by Detectives Moore and McWhirter that Copley had been in Auckland, since July 10 and since then had been seen in company with reputed and convicted thieves and other undesirable characters, many of whom lived on their wits. Copley did no work and had no money and had been previously convicted of being an idle and disorderly person. Both witnesses read extracts from their note books and gave the names of undesirables with whom they had seen accused.

Mr. Noble, who appeared for Copley, eaid he was a showman, and naturally associated with other showmen. Even if they were unfortunate enough to have convictions, it was difficult for Copley not to mix with them. Copley had not been in trouble since 1926. When arrested he had in his pocket a railway ticket to Te Kuiti, where he was about to go in search of work. "You had better leave the city right away and find some .other town," Mr. Hunt told Copley, in convicting and ordering him to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. Mr. Noble:. He will go to Te Kuiti. Detective ; Sergeant Kelly: I don't think it will be Te iMiiti's gain!
