ALLEGED ISLAND MURDER.
CHINAMAN FOR TRIAI*
LANDED AT SUVA.
A Chinese who is facing a charge of murder was taken from Ocean Island to Suva by the steamer Nauru Chief, which arrived at Auckland last night. Hβ i* now on trial at Suva.
The alleged murder, according to officers of the Nauru Chief, was committed on Ocean Island eome months ago. The wife of a Chinese interpreter was found in her home badly mutilated. Robbery was apparently the motive for the crime.
Three Gilbert Island policemen had charge of the accused man for the trip from the Island to Fiji.
The Nauru Chief also carried thirteen witnesses, who are to give evidence at the trial, including the husband of the murdered woman.
