WAITEMATA DISTRICT,

MEETING OF THE BOARD

The Waitemata Electric Power Board met this morning, the chairman, Mr. H. A Kobertson, presiding. The secretary-treasurer, Mr. A. Main, reported that the sales of current for thi month of July amounted to £6220, com pared with £5739 for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of £481 Ihe value of sales for the four months ended July 31 was £28,698, as against £26,880 for the 19&) period, an increase of £1818. Discounts allowed consumer* during the past four months totalled £6032, compared with £3502 for the corresponding period last year. The engineer (Mr. F. J. H. Wilson) reported upon progress made during the past month with works in both the country and North Shore areas. Low tension lines had been overhauled, and reconstruction of some of the lines at Devonport had been carried out. Trouble occurring with the street lighting circuits in Birkenhead and Glen Eden during the stormy weather had been remedied. During the period under review 171 wiring permits had been issued for new work, additions and alterations. Consumers now totalled 8227, 43 new connections having been made during the month. The New Zealand Institute of Horticulture wrote congratulating the board on its decision to exercise the utmost care in cutting, back trees to make way for its power lines. "We are greatly pleased with your attitude," said the institute in offering any assistance the board might require in the matter. Wages of Staff. A notice of motion by Mr. 0. W. Marks that the minute of June 15 reducing the salaries of members of the staff covered by awards by 10 per cent be rescinded, was defeated. Mr. MarTis sought to have all wages of the staff treated alike, on the sliding scale.
