Provision is made in the Unemployment Amendment Act for tho appointment by the Unemployment Board of a special committee to consider the whole question of unemployed women.

Tho Minister of Labour, the Hon. S. G. Smith, chairman of the board, announced to-day that the following have been appointed to. the; committee:— Messrs. H. D. Thomson, Under-Secretary for Immigration (chairman), Frank Campbell, of Wellington, formerly president of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Association, Mrs. Marshall Macdonald, Dunedin, and Mies B. E. Carnachan, president of the National Council of Women, Auckland.

LEAGUE URGES SUPPORT. The Women's International League passed the following resolution concerning unemployed women at its meeting last week:—"That as the winter has nearly passed without anything being done to benefit unemployed women, this meeting urges that work or sustenance be provided without further delay." Mrs. A. D. Hamilton moved that: "A eurtax be levied on luxuries instead of on necessities of life." Copies of both these resolutions have been sent to the Prime Minister.

The annual report showed that the activities undertaken during the year included preparations for the forthcoming Disarmament Conference, investigation into the child welfare system, the sending of a petition to on behalf of-the women of Western Samoa, and the question of unemployment among women. Mrs. E. Gibson reported an increased demand for disarmament petition forms from all over the Dominion.
