GANG OF LARRIKINS.
TROUBLE AT NEWMARKET.
YOUTH FINED FOE BAD LANGUAGE.
"The question.is whether this young larrikin and others in this gang, or the police, are going to control Newmarket, said Detective-Sergeant Kelly at the Police Court this morning, when John Malone, labourer, aged 19, appeared on ft charge of using indecent language. Malone pleaded guilty.
Mr. Kelly said a few larrikins were Routing aiid whistling in Broadway, Newmarket, on Saturday night. They took up a position in the doorway of a phop, where they are usually to be found, and accused, had to be forcibly ejected by the constable. Malone then ma d e ;nse of tho indecent language to the .constable.
"The constable who arrested him has known Malone for three years," said Jlr. Kelly. "Malone is one of a gang of larrikins who annoy passers by and cause" trouble at dance halls." Stating that Malone had never been in trouble before and that he was not earning much money, Mr. Kelly suggested that he be placed on probation. ° "What! Put Mr. Campbell to the trouble of looking after him?" eaid Mr. Hunt. "The best thing is to hit him in the pocket. He's fined £2, or three days' Imprisonment."
