THE FAIRY GLEN.
(By Jean Hill, Waitakere, aged 16.) Down a mossy path, into a secret glen, This is where the fairy folk frolic now and then; On a large whit© toadstool, 'neath the silvery moon, This is where the elfin piper pipes his magic tune. Little elves in green coats, pixies dreseed in brown, Turning flips and somersaults, dancing up and down; Tiny little fairies tripping o'er the green, Joining in the revelry, bowing to their queen. Her Majesty is seated on a mossy throne, 'Neath a shelt'ring tree fern; and a tiny gnome Holds her wand of silver with its magic power, While she picks clematis stars that grow around her bower.
Her frock ie of the spider's finest, silken web, And e'en the bluebells bow beneath her fairy tread; On her crown there is a star made of the crystal dew, And a raindrop buckle bhia 3 on each small .dainty shoe. A little fairy pixie plays on a magic flute, His platform is not one of gold, but an old, old, kauri root; An' when he fills the fairy glen with his tinkling tune, The melody floats across the vale, across the blue lagoon. One night when all th® world is hushed, I shall softly steal, Down through the sylvan, moonlit woods, y trum Pets peal; ill follow by the tiny brook and where tne pigeons coo, P'raps if I am very quiet, I'll see the fairies too.
