WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB. ECLIPSE STAKES ELIMINATED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, this day. The programme for the spring meeting' of the Wanganui Jockey Club, to be held on September 17 and 19, has been drawn ,up, and shows a big reduction in stake money compared with, last year. The total amount offered is 1730sovs, as against over 4000sovs last year, when the programme wa<s drawn up before the Government brought down the extra taxation proposals, which led to the meeting resulting in a loss of over lOOOsovs. For the coming meeting, with the exception of the Wanganui Guineas, which is worth SOQsovs, and for which nomination closed over twelve months ago, there are only two events with a stake of over lOOsovs, the Marangai Handicap on the first day, and the Higgie Handicap on the second day, each being worth 120sovs. The New Zealand Eclipse Stakes has been eliminated,- and the Belmont Handicap of SOsovs, substituted. The Flying Handicap and the Owen Handicap, of 90eovs each, are the two principal sprint events.
