ON MURDER CHARGE.
DEATH OF YOUNG GIEL,
LONDON, Julv 10.
Still wearing the blazer and cricket flannels he wag wearing when he was arrested at a village cricket match. Arthur James Salvage, aged 23, a poultry dealer, of Ruekinge Village, near Ashford, was remanded at Ashford Police Court on a charge of murdering a child named Ivy Godden. Salvage refused legal aid, but his mother engaged counsel to appear on his behalf at the inquest, which disclosed that the child had been outraged. The shock, combined with a blow on the head, possibly with a cricket bat found with the body, caused death. The child was 12 years old. Her body, wrapped in sacks, was found buried in a wood at Ruekinge. near the poultry farm belonging to Salvage's mother. Salvage was keeping wicket in the match at which he was arrested.
