MOUNT EDEN AFFAIRS.
Your correspondent Mr. Ernest B. Bambury is another overlooker of the fact that our ratepayers subscribed £120 at 2/G a "pop"to fight the old council at the recent election and that our sore point in particular was the start" and officials. I have been given to understand that an official statement will be made at the opportune moment, and let us P ia 7. that any new appointments are not for thirtyfive years with the right to create a fuss at the expiration of that period. Your coirespondent "E.G." states that outstanding rates amount to £31,700, which should convince - r. Bambury and others that our rate burden exceeds our financial resources and that every possible saving should be made in order, to relieve them of charges piled up by our past folly and extravagant administration, in® ratepayer is the only one to be considered in these matters, and in particular far' Mount Eden is concerned those owing tm £31,700, many of whom are in danger of losing property that has been purchased at consider able self-denial. A meeting of ratepayers would certainly be welcome, and I sugges & presentation or some mark of appio\al our flavor and his band of business men tor fearlessly carrying out an unpleasant public duty. A- BISHOI.
