WELLINGTON RACES.

TOWN MAJOR SCORES

TANERIRI ANOTHEK SECOND

MEMBERS' TO KAHI KATOA

WEST DOME COMPLETES DOUBLE

(By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.")

WELLINGTON, Wednesday

The Wellington Racing Club's winter meeting was continued at Trentliam today in fine weather. The attendance was much better than on Saturday,' but the track was very holding and upset some of the form. The totalisator handled £23,350, compared with £35,572 on the second day last year.

The Parliamentary Handicap went to Town Major, who performed well at this fixture last year, but has since shown little form. Sharp Thorn won the Seatown Handicap, but came out from the rails over the last bit, and it was alleged his rider hit Lord Val over the head with his whip. The owner of Lord Val protested, but the stewards dismissed the complaint. Kahikatoa annexed the Members' Handicap, and gave Hector Gray his first winning ride at the meeting. West Dome Again. Winter Day was the only defection from the Mariri Steeplechase, for which Bon Aryan (£390) was favourite, with Umtali (£253) and West Dome (£23S) next fancied. Thurina fell at the'fence' turning into the back the second time round. Kaokaoroa and Pangolin led past the seven-furlong post, attended by Bon Aryan, Umtali, West Dome, Taramoa, Jiu Jazz and Diamond Jack. Pangolin was first into the straight just ahead of Kaokaoroa, Umtali, West Dome and Bon Aryan. West Dome and Umtali then drew out, and after crossing the last fence Umtali headed West Dome, but in a great finish West Dome came again to score by a short neck from Umtali, who beat Kaokaoroa by five lengths. Pangolin was fourth. Diamond Jack fell at the fence three furlongs from home.

Belvoir Tires. All started for the Trial Plate, for which Royal Hunting (£580), Nightmare (£564) and Belvoir (£409) were the best fancied. Once the course proper was reached Belvoir took charge, with Interlocutor, Gold Pit, Nightmare, Zeebrugge and Navalio all handy. Belvoir looked a winner half-way -down, but Nightmare challenged strongly, and settling Belvoir, who was anchored by the going in the last bit, won by a length from Belvoir, who beat Zeebrugge by five lengths. Interlocutor was fourth. Lord Val Beaten. All the acceptors paraded for the Seatown Handicap. Lord Val (£501), Water Power (£351) and Kissless (£297) were most in demand, while Sharp Thorn was entrusted with only £185. Before the top was reached Sharp Thorn had taken charge from Seneschal, Arrowzone, Lord Val, Shootist, Manuiri and Water Power, with Dunraven last. Sharp Thorn' was followed into the straight by Seneschal, Lord Val, Shootist and Water Power. Lord Val challenged Sharp Thorn after passing the false rail, but ' the latter stayed on to score by a length and a half from Lord Val, who beat Water Power by two lengths. Seneschal was fourth. The Sun was left at the barrier. Landmark Wins Well.

Apache (£607), Unoco (£475), Landmark (£469) and Royal Mint (£428) commanded most attention in the <p OI " unll a Hurdles. Royal Mint and Apache led along the back from Unoco, Llandudno, Landmark, The Warden and Callamar.t. Crossing the top Llandudno ran up to Royal Mint, the pair being we'll clear of Apache, Callamart, Landmark and Unoco. Landmark tackled Royal Mint and beat him home by a length and a half. Callamart was five lengths away, with Llandudno fourth. A Surprise. There were no scratchings for the Parliamentary Handicap. Taneriri (£688), High Pitch (£342) and Mahora (£340) were the public selections, while Town Major (£254) _was eighth in order of fancy when the" machine closed. Taneriri got away best and Little Double, Black Mint and Singleton got the worst of the start. Ephialtes was in charge along the back from Mahora, Taneriri, Punchestown, Town Major, Topere, Royal Opera, Little Doubt, High Pitch, Merry Damon Pahu. Punchestown was the pilot across the top from Topere, Taneriri, Mahora, Town Major, Mount Boa and Royal Opera. The order was much the same into the straight, where Town Major took charge and stalling off Taneriri won by two lengths, with Ephialtes three lengths away. Then came Topere, High Pitch, Merry Damon, Black Mint, Singleton, Little Doubt, Punchestown, Mahora and Mount Boa. Claremore Wakes Amends. Tunbridge and Fabriano were the withdrawals £rom the High-weight Handicap. The Smuggler (£491), Spear Lad (£447) and Claremore (£244) had most friends. Nukumai dislodged his rider three times before the start. Cook had a break of four lengths as they passed the six-furlong post and was still well clear as they crossed the top, his nearest attendants being Prince Lu, Warzone, Spear Lad, Cristobel and Claremore. Cook was first into the straight, followed by Spear Lad, Prince Lu, Claremore and Membo. Claremore then went after Cook and beat him home by half a length, with Taragona, who came from a long way "back, three lengths away. Air Laddie was fourth. Warzone fell as he reached the post. The Members'.

All started for the Members' Handicap. Prince Val (£798), Kahikatoa (£737) ana Fitzquex (£552) being best backed. Coon Song was well clear crossing the top from Kahikatoa. Royal Saxon, Fitzquex, Prince Val ancl Royal Finance. Kahikatoa and Prince Val challenged, while Red Boa came oil the inside, Kahikatoa beating Prince Val by two lengths, with Red Boa a neck away third. Coon Song was fourth. An inquiry was held regarding interference by Prince Val at the turn with Fitzquex, Royal Saxon and Royal Finance. The Judicial Committee decided to give Jockey A. E. Ellis the benefit of the doubt owing to tlie bad nature of the j track, which might have caused the horse j to slip about. Final Favourite Fails. In the Petone Handicap, for which all started, Winsome Hind (£623) was favourite, with Moorbird (£520) and Wild Country (£510) next best favoured. Wild Country, Awamiltu, Trojan Melody and Water Power were most prominent coming on to the course proper, and in the run to the judge Water Power did best to score by two lengths from Wild Country, with Trojan Melody six lengths away third. Then came Miss Chatter, Baskier and Winsome Hind. [ Results: — MARIRI HACK STEEPLES of 250SOVS. About two miles and a half. . 3—WEST DOME, b g,'Oyrs (Mr. j. A. Pears), 11.9— H.
