TROTTING.

CANTERBURY NOTES.

FIFA IS PROMISING,

KATE LOGAN CHANGES STABLES.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") ■ CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. In the past motor cars.have been admitted free of charge at meetings of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club but now it has been decided to impose a charge of 2/ for each car. 1 J. N. Clarke has very few horses at present, having sold most, of them at his clearing sale at the end of last month. The New Brighton trainer, however, still retains Fifa, who is being worked in view of the meeting at Addington next month. Fifa is one of the most .promising young trotters in commission, and should be capable of a lot more improvement. W. J. Morland is keeping Gold Country in steady work. The Key de Oro pacer is in fine order, but he is not .likely to be raced for some time. His owner-trainer has a great idea' of producing two milers, and no doubt he will build up Gold Country as a stayer. Country Belle, the dam of Gold Country, was a good stayer, while the progeny of Rey de Oro find no i trouble over two. miles. Gold Country has had only two races, each of a mile and a half, and he has won each time. He is a candidate for the best class. . Although T. G. Fox shows a- decided preference for trotters, he has in his team at present a couple of pacers who look likely to make good. One of them, lay the New Zealand Cup winner Sheik, from Lovebird, grew very fast as a young mare, and very little was done with her, but she has furnished into a solidly-built pacer. She is a regular worker, and is one of the best actioned novices at Addington. A mare by First Fashion from Britt Audubon is also a promising sort. Britt Audubon, by Great Audubon, from an O.Y.M. mare, was not a success on the race track. Her daughter is a qualitylooking young mare, whose sire was a fine trotter in his time. Fox's pair of pacers should.do good service for their popular trainer in the new season. The pacer Kate Logan, who has done all her racing for J. N. Clarke's stable, has joined A. E. Bussell's team at New Brighton. L. Frost has recommissioned Some Guy, who won at Ashburton last month. He is a five-year-old by Real Guy from Cammie, and looks like being one of the best _of his sire's progeny in the- pacing division. The Australian importation Golden Pedro has not done much fast work since he came to Addington, but he moved along at a useful speed a few mornings ago with the trotters Peterwah and Surprise Journey as his mates. He is a longstriding pacer, who looks like being a good two-miler. Free Advice has resumed work; but die is very big in condition as a result of her spell. She should add to her record in the new season, but she may require some racing before she reaches her best form.
