SOME MOVE MADE?
CANADIAN TARIFF IMPASSE.
EARLY STATEMENT EXPECTED.
The Canadian British Traders' Association of New Zealand has received a number of cablegrams from Canadian firms stating that the Canadian Government is in communication with the New Zealand Government on the question of the trade position between the two countries. Canadian firms are pressing on their Government the urgency of communicating with New Zealand without delay, and they expect that when Parliament adjourns, in the middle of July, the matter will receive immediate attention.
A number of cablegrams were tabled at the last meeting of the association. The majority were from Canadian principals, stating that they were working with the Government, and had received an assurance that negotiations » T ere in conduct with New Zealand.
The secretary, Mr. A. G. Wilson, said this morning that an early statement from tie Prime Minister was anticipated. The ac>sociation was recenly informed by Mr. Forbes that the New Zealand Government was awaiting word from Canada, and it was now evident ttat some move had been made. The matter is regarded as urgent by the association, because those interested in tte trade between the two countries are in a state of uncertainty.
