UNEMPLOYED WOMEN.
STREET COLLECTION NOT
ALLOWED.
Permission to take up a street collection'was refused the women's unemployment committee of the New Zealanders Association by the City Council last evening. The secretary of the association pointed out that a previous application had been refused, and said that if the Council adhered to'its decision the unemployed women would organise and hold a procession in- the streets daily. In moving that the request be declined the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, said that he had convened a meeting of Women interested in the welfare of unemployed women in Auckland, and the matter had been fully gone into.' If it were necessary, he had promised to open a Mayor's fund to receive subscriptions. That proposal had been agreed to, with two exceptions, one of them being the New Zealanders' Association.
