AVONDALE LIBRARY.

OPENED FOR RESIDENTS. TRIBUTE TO CITY COUNCIL. There was a large gathering of local residents at Avondale on Saturday afternoon, when the new public .library-was declared formally opened for use. Miss E. Melville, representing the Auckland City Council, wae present, and mentioned that with the opening of the Avondale branch the council had completed a chain of libraries. A wonderful transformation had taken place within the walls of the original Avondale Town Hall (used for many years as the local picture, theatre) and the .building now contained an -attractive* library. .Miss Melville hoped that, residents would make very full use. of the library. Mr. P. Richardson, on behalf' of residents of Avondale, thanked Miss Melville for her address, and: felt sure that all.appreciated the act of the City-Coun-cil in making such improvements .and establishing the library.
