AUCKLAND ROTARY CLUB.

— *■• TO-DAY'S LUNCHEON MEETING ADDRESS BY THE "PADRE." A stirring, address was delivered to Auckland Rotarians to-day at the weekly lunch meeting held iu Milne and Choyce'e reception hall, . the speaker being the Rev. G. C. Cruickshauk, known to Rotarians as the '"Padre." In the light of his own five years' experience as -a Rotariai* beforq retirement last year 3 Mr. Cruickshank commented freely upon the organisation, and made suggestions whereby its usefulness could be increased. He proceeded to deal with social evils in the city, and urged that members should assist wherever ppssible on the numerous small committees that were engaged in dealing with the problem. Starting in* their own homes as parents, they should pull their weight and not leave to the women the. extremely difficult task of controlling - and protecting young people in these times when temptation was more acute than ever. Rotarians, generally speaking, were men of experience in' organisation, and possessed influence thaticould.be extremely helpful. Touching on general questions, he expressed his pleasure that during the last twelve months a number of Auckland Rotarians had iaken a lead in public affairs. In his view, the nature of the-criticism and the abuse to which aspirants to public office were subjected in these days ■ was a disgrace to any civilised community, so much so that a person needed to be something of a hero to stand On a public .The vote of thanks was moved by Rotarian A.. B. Roberton. The chair was occupied by the president, Rotarian C. J. Tunks, and among the visitors were:—Dr. McAra (London), Mesrs. W. E. Jupp (Sydney), F. Rowell (Leeston), A. H. Gaze (Melbourne), C. i R. Blayney (Sydney), J. M. Thompson (Winnipeg), Jas.. Thompson. (Wolverhampton).
