ELAM SCHOOL OF ART.

PRESENT BUILDING UNSAFE. As was announced in yesterday's issue of the "Star" the senior inspector of the Auckland Education Board (Mr. J. Robertson), lias been instructed to report as to whether the board lias a building suitable for accommodating pupils of the Elani School of Art. An adverse report has been made on the present school building in Rutland Street as a result of the investigation ordered by the Minister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) into the safety of brick schools. In a'report furnished to the Education Department, it is understood that the building was declared to be unsound, and attention was drawn to cracks in its face. It was suggested that the Old Grammar.School in.Symonds Street might lie used for the purpose of housing art students, but an inspection showed that it was not suitable. The chairman of the Elam School of Art Board, Mr. C. J. Tanks, stated to an interviewer that it seemed impossible to find suitable quarters at present, and the board did not know how lonn- tliey would be permitted to use the present building. To be perfectly logical the Minister of Education should order 'their immediate eviction.
