WAGES CUT.

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL. AMENDMENTS PROPOSED. NOTICES OF MOTION GIVEN. Amendments to the City Council's recent cut in wages and salaries will be considered by the council at its ordinary meeting next Thursday. The Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, has given notice to move that the following resolution, adopted on May 1, be rescinded: "That all salaries or wages over £250 not governed by an award be reduced -at the rate of 10 per cent to March 31, 1932, but that none be so reduced as to bring any salary or wage below a rate of £200 per annum." . The following motion will be put forward in substitution of it, if it is successful: "That all salaries or wages not governed by an award be reduced at the rate of 10 per cent to March'3l, 1932, and that the additional amount which will be provided as the result of this resolution be applied for the purpose of providing employment." Another notice of motion has been given by Mr. T. Bloodworth, who Avili move that the motion passed on June 11 reducing all wages and salaries be rescinded. If his motion is carried, he will move the following: "That a reduction of 10 per cent be made on all wages paid by the council under awards and industrial and other agreements, including time and piece wages, and overtime and other special payments, provided tliat the reduction shall not apply to: (1) The first £2 in each week's wage; (2) to any wage which, when full time is worked, is not in exftess of £4 a week; (3) to the wage of any worker who, by reason of shortage of work provided by the council, or of the work on which he is engaged being regarded as relief work, is not permitted to work full time in each and every week."

It is understood that the last subclause of Mr. Bloodworth's motion refers in part to relief workers on the waterfront road, who work in two shifts, week and week about. These men are not employed under No. 5 scheme.
