MARIST'S WELLINGTON VISIT. NORTHERN UNION CUP CHALLENGE. The Auckland Rugby League last evening decided to substitute the third round draw of July 11 for that of the fifth round on July 25, on which date the Marist Old Boys' senior team has arranged to play an exhibition match at Wellington against a club or combined club side. The Marist Club extended an invitation to members of. the management to travel with them. An application for expenses toward the trip was declined on the scQre of financial stringency. Newton Rangers advised that owing to the resignation of Mr. G. Paton, Mr. H. Wood had been appointed secretary of the club. Reval A. Travis, ex-Alcarana Club, applied for reinstatement to play with City seniors. This was granted, subject to the usual conditions. An application for financial assistance to the new Wellington League, supported by the New Zealand Council, was referred to the finance committee. Senior clubs will be notified by letter advising the arrangement of fixtures with South Auckland senior clubs on occasions when they have byes. It was decided to issue a challenge for the . Northern Union Cup held by South Auckland. Considerable discussion took place in connection with what fixture on Saturday should be staged on the Western Springs Stadium ground for the first time, and a close vote resulted in the proposal to play the Marist-Ilichmond fixture there.
