OBJECTION TO TLAT RATE. "UNFAIR TAXATION SYSTEM." The present: economic position as it affects Civil servants was discussed at a, fully representative meeting of all branches of the public service in Auckland last evening. There were delegates in attendance'from every branch and sub-branch of'the service. After a long discussion, during which all aspects of ' the ease were fully discussed, the following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That this meeting of representatives .of the Civil Service heartily commends the outspoken and courageous attitude of Dr. Belshaw, professor of economics, and his co-lecturer. Mr. H. K. Eodwell, of Auckland University, regarding the unfair system of taxation imposed in .connection with the unemployment' levy "and" its suggested extension by the doubling of the samo, and to these gentlemen We 'express the thanks ot the small salary and wageearners. Further, this meeting considers any further taxation required should be imposed on the graduated principle, the burden to be carrjed Ay those best able to bear it." . * ;
