MOVE TO DISBAND.

FRUITGROWERS' COUNCIL MAY JOIN ADVISOBY BOARD. "NO NEED FOR DUPLICATION." Intimation of a motion that the necessary notice be given to members to disband the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Council, Limited, was made by Mr. F. Firth at the annual meeting of the council this morning. There was a very poor attendance at the meeting, and the resignation of three organisations was received. "The apathy of the fruitgrowers is not encouraging," said the president, Mr. S. W. House, "and it seems that the only thing to do is to wind up the council." Mr. Firth suggested that the council should be wound up, and should link up with the Auckland Advisory Board. The opinion was expressed by other members that the Advisory Board could successfully carry out the work of the council. At present it was only concerned with exporting matters, but' there was no reason why its powers could not be extended, as had happened in Nelson. The Advisory Board could call the fruitgrowers together at least once a year, when questions affecting the industry could be discussed. Mr. W. J. Roper, chairman of the Advisory Board, said that at present it dealt with anything that cropped up outside exporting affairs. He could see no reason why the board could not do the work of the council. "As far as I can see there is no alternative but to wind up," said the president. "There is no need for duplication. It has Been no surprise to me to hear the comments this morning, as I have anticipated them for some time." The meeting was adjourned until July 10.
