SEAT FORFEITED.

LICENSING COMMITTEEMAN. ABSENT FROM TWO MEETINGS. A vacancy exists on the Manukau Licensing Committee through the absence of Mr. W. J. Wallace from two consecutive meetings of the committee. The Act bearing on the question is mandatory and states that no matter from what cause a member is absent, if he fails to attend two consecutive meetings hie seat becomes vacant. When a vacancy occurs the Governor-General may appoint someone to fill it. This is the second occasion on which a vacancy has occurred through nonattendance since the present committee was appointed three years ago. When the committee met at the quarterly meeting on March 7, 1928, it was found that Messrs. H. R. Mackenzie and W. Gavin had forfeited their seats through being absent from two consecutive meetings. The quarterly meeting had to be adjourned, as the chairman was also absent. Eventually Mr. W. H. Gavin was reappointed and Mr. T. H. Pardington took the place of Mr. Mackenzie, who was about to proceed to England. It is not known who ie to fill the present vacancy, of which the Government has been notified.
