PRESENTATION.

A large and representative gathering of citizens met at Devdnport last evening' to do honour to Mrs. D. W. McLean and at the same time extend congratulations on her assuming the commission of justice of the peace: The Mayor, Mr. F. H. W,- Meikle, in his address referred to the long association their gueet had had in the social life of Devonport. Mrs. McLean had occupied the. presidency of the Women's National Reserve, "and was the first superintendent of the Devonport St. John Ambulance Corps, the money obtained from that source being utilised in connection with -tlite Watson Convalescent Home at the North Head. For the" invaluable services rendered, Mrs. McLean was created a life member of the Victoria League. For many years Mrs. ; McLean devoted efforts to war work,- and had always evinced the greatest interest in . the encouragement of athletics..' A presentation in the form of an address was made by Mr. Meikle

to Mrs. McLean, which recorded the appreciation of the citizens of Devonport and signed- by Messrs. J. Hislop, J.P., F. E. Mason, G. McKenzie, .W. E. , Napier, A. E. Alison, G. P. Wynyard, F. J. Duder, J. B. Graham, F. B. BurJames Macky. Mrs. McLean her many friends for the presentation. Mr. Archie Ferguson, on behalf of the sports bodies, ■ also conveyed appreciation of Mrs. McLean's services in regard to athletics.- Among the ladies present were:—The Mayoress, Mrs. F. H. W. Meikle, Miss Basten, Mesdames Ferguson, 'F. Proctor, Johnson, Watts, Bock, Dobbie, J. Lennard, Barnes, Meiklejohn, Best, Cornell, Henrickson, Hardy and . Misses Best and Graham.
