The Women's Luncheon Glu'b.held its fortnightly meeting in the Y.W.0.A.. on Tuesday. The speaker for the day, Mrs. S. O. A delightful bridge party was held at the Lyceum Club yesterday, when Mrs. W, D. Holgate entertained a number of her friends. The lounge, where the guests were received, was gay with masses of flowers, and Mrs. Holgate wore a frock of black, with steel trimmings and black hat. "The Avon Circle" met on June 17\ at the residence of the president, Mrs. Arthur Griffiths, Bellevue Road, Mount Eden. Mr. Walter Impett, the guest of the evening, gave an account of his travels in the Old Country and on the Continent, during which he met personally twenty musical celebrities, including Sir Frederick Cowen and Mr. Percy/Grainger. .A fine description of the stage performance of the symbolic "Parsifal" (one of the legends written round;the Quest of the Holy Grail), at tlie Wagner Theatre.' was given, and also of. the. production of "Tannhauser," as conducted by the world-famous Italian conductor, Toscanini. Mr. Impett dwelt at some length on the marvellous stage settings and mechanical effects. Mr. Kenneth Impett showed a series of excellent moving pictures taken by him on the scene, showing vast crowds outside the Bayreuth Th'eatre totween the intervals, and the multitudes who witnessed the impressive . funeral of Siegfried Wagner. During the evening Miss "Gladys" Hosking sang- artistieally "Deirdre's Song"" from Mrs. Kennedy Fraeer's "Songs of the Hebrides," and Miss Marjorie Arey gave a pianoforte rendering of Palmgren's "Evening Whispers." Miss Madge Horn contributed adramatic monologue "The Coquette," and Miss Doris Messer, L.T.C.L., gave a humorous sketch "Some Proposals by Some Lovers." Two violin solos were played by Master James Molloy.' The accompanists were Mr. Walter Impett, Miss ..Haresnape, L.T.C.L., and Mise Robinson.
