Mr. and Mrs* Neil Gallaugher and their daughter, of Albury Avenue, Epeom, have left for a motor tour to Rotorua, Wairakei and the Chateau Tongariro.

Sir Charles and Lady Statham and Mies Marjorie Statham, who left Dunedin during the week-end for Wellington, will leave that city shortly to spend a vacation at Rotorua.

Miss Roma Raw and Miss Florence Raw, who have been living in Auckland for the past few months, are at present paying a farewell visit to Wellington, prior to their departure for England. Their mother, Mrs. J. R. Raw, will accompany them there, where she will rejoin her son, who ie studying medicine at Guy's Hospital. *•• • •

Mfss A. M. Stops has been staying in Dunedin, and is the guest of Dr. Siede-berg-McKinnon. She attended on June 4 the annual meeting of the Otago and Southland Division of the Women's Institute, and then intended to proceed to Southland. Since her last visit Miss Stops has been instrumental in forming 105 new branches of the institute, the number in New Zealand now standing at 250.

Madame Anny Pauser, a goddaughter of Ignace Paderewski, the musician, and President of the first Republic in Poland, is Poland's outstanding woman painter' (states an exchange). She has now gone to America to exhibit her work. Paderewski also is in America, it will be remembered, giving a series of concerts to try to avert Ms own bankruptcy. SOCIAL GATHERINGS. The Paeroa Ladies' Bridge Club met at Sister Clima's, when Miss won the iirst prize and Miss E. Evans the second. The hostesses were Sister Clymo and Miss A. Angall. * * # • The women of Mount Eden Gaol were entertained on King's Birthday by a concert party arranged by Mrs. J. W. Bailey. Songs, character sketches and community singing provided a pleasant two hours. Those who contributed items were Misses P. Hawley, F. McKain, L. Sharp, M. Yorke and Mrs. J. W. Bailey. * * * * The monthly At Home of the Overseas League was held at the club rooms, Short's Buildings, yesterday afternoon, and attracted a large attendance of members and friends. Afternoon tea was eerved by the ladies of the committee. The book competition was won by Mrs. Rabbige and Mrs. Ryburn. * * * * The Women's Luncheon Club held its fortnightly meeting in the Y.W.C.A. on Tuesday, when Mr. Airey spoke on the League of Nations. Other speakers for this year have been Mrs. Wilton, "Life in Malaya"; Miss Munro, "The Subnormal Child"; and Miss Begg, "Mental Defectives Bill." Mr. Page showed a film of Arapuni. * ♦ • *

An enjoyable time was spent at "Dominionville" on Tueeday night, when Mrs. Charles Burnett and Mrs. W. MeCready were the hostesses at a kitchen evening in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Lallie McCready to Mr. S. Prentice. The guest of honouj wore a blue floral georgette. The evening was spent in dancing and games, and items were given by Miss McCready, Meesrs. Jack Bree, Zante Wood and Chas. Burnett.

After the presentation of the Veronica Cup by the Auckland Navy League yesterday, the visitors were the guests of Commander and Mrs. Lyon Berthon to morning tea on board H.M.s. Philomel. A meeting of the combined -women's organisations entertainment , committee was held yesterday afternoon to make final arrangements for the farewell leception which all the women of Auckland are tendering to the ex-Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell. It wil take place next Thursday afternoon in the Town Hall. A musical programme has been arranged, This will be folkwed by afternoon tea. The sisters of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 52, Otahuhu, held a dance in the Parish Hall last Wednesday evening. Mrs. J. Sanderson played several extras. During the evening items were given by Mr. and Mrs. J. Sanderson. A dainty supper was served by the lodge sistere. » * * *

The Otahuhu branch of the Mothers' Union, held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. The Rev. R. J. Stanton, assisted by the Rev. B. C. Palmer, conducted the service in the Church of the Holy Trinity. After the service the mothers adjourned to the Parish Hall, where Mr. Stanton introduced the speaker for the afternoon, Mrs. R. G. Coats, of Mount Albert. Mrs. Coats gave a very helpful address to the mothers on the bringing up of their families. Mrs. Stanton, president of the Otahuhu branch, moved a vote of thanks to the speaker, after which afternoon tea was served.

Mrs. G. Paykel, of Epsom, gave a birthday dance at the Domain Kiosk on Thursday. Games, competitions and dancing were enjoyed. Quaint favours were used on the brilliantly decorated supper table, which was trellised with mauve and pink convolvulus. Mrs. Paykel wore a bottle green Mechlin lace gown; Miss Joyce Paykel received the guests in a water lily green chiffon, with a lemon shaded corsage. The social committee of St. Oswald's Church entertained parishioners and friends at a delightful bridge and 500 evening on Wednesday, at St. Oswald's Hall, One Tree Hill.
