ABANDONED FARMS.
INQUIRIES BY DEPARTMENT.
UNEMPLOYED AS SETTLERS

WELLINGTON, Tuesday,
Replying to a deputation from the Wellington Unemployment Committee to-day, the Hon. S.-G. Smith, Minister of Labour, said the Lands Department was at present carrying out a complete investigation of the position of abandoned farms. When this was completed farms would be thrown open for selection by unemployed.
The Minister said lie hoped to make an announcement in a day of two-in regard to the whole position.
